Profiles and Parental Controls in B Player

When the whole family shares one TV, everyone's favourites, history and "continue watching" lists can get mixed together. B Player fixes this with profiles. On top of that, a parental control PIN and Category preference let you decide what appears on screen and what can be played. This guide explains all three.

Quick answer

  • B Player opens on a "Who's watching?" screen where each person picks their own profile and avatar.
  • Each profile has its own favourites, history, groups, watched marks and hidden categories.
  • Switch profiles from Settings → Account or by selecting your avatar in the top bar.
  • Set a 4-digit PIN in Settings → Parental control, and adult categories will ask for it before playing.
  • Hide the categories you never use in Settings → Category preference.

What a profile keeps separate

A B Player profile is your own personal space inside the app. Each one has:

  • Favourites: your favourite channels, not someone else's.
  • History: your own "continue watching" list in My List → History.
  • Groups: the custom channel groups you create.
  • Watched marks: the ticks on movies and episodes you've finished.
  • Hidden categories: the categories you've switched off in Category preference.

So if one person watches series every evening and another only watches live channels, each sees a tidy app that suits them.

Choosing who's watching

On the "Who's watching?" screen, each profile is shown with its avatar.

  1. Use the arrow buttons on your remote to highlight your profile.
  2. Press OK.
  3. B Player opens with your favourites, history and settings.

Switching to another profile

You don't need to restart the app to change profile.

  1. Select your profile avatar in the top bar, or go to Settings → Account.
  2. Choose the profile you want to switch to.
  3. You'll now see that profile's favourites, history and groups.

Tip: before handing the remote to someone else, switch to their profile. That way their viewing doesn't end up in your History and your ticks stay accurate.

Parental control: lock adult categories with a PIN

If children use the TV, turn on parental control.

  1. Open Settings (the gear icon in the top bar).
  2. Choose Parental control.
  3. Set a 4-digit PIN that only adults know.

From now on, adult categories ask for the PIN before playing. Once the correct PIN is entered, those categories stay unlocked until the app restarts. After a restart, the PIN is needed again.

A few tips:

  • Pick a PIN that's easy for you to remember but hard to guess. Avoid obvious ones like 1234 or 0000.
  • Close and reopen the app when you've finished watching, so the lock is back on for the next person.
  • Keep the PIN to yourself. Anyone who knows it can unlock adult categories.

Category preference: hide what you don't watch

Category preference keeps the menus short. It's also handy for making a child's profile simpler.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose Category preference.
  3. Pick the section: Live, Movies or Series.
  4. Switch off the categories you never watch.
  5. Use Show all to bring everything back, or Hide all to start from nothing and switch on only what you want.

Category preference is saved per profile, so hiding categories on your profile doesn't change anyone else's. That makes it easy to give each person, children included, a short and simple list.

Putting it together for a family

Here's a simple setup many households find useful:

  1. Give each person a profile so favourites and history stay separate.
  2. On the children's profile, use Category preference to show only the categories they should see.
  3. Turn on Parental control with a PIN, so adult categories always ask for it before playing.
  4. Show everyone how to choose their own profile on the "Who's watching?" screen.

Good to know

  • Profiles are a way to organise the app. They don't change how many devices can watch at once. That depends on your plan's screens at once, which you can see in Settings → Account as "connections in use".
  • If someone else's favourites appear on your screen, check which profile is active by looking at the avatar in the top bar.
